Cocoa Beach’s New Fire Station

Cocoa Beach’s New Fire Station

Written by: Mark Clancey

The eclectic design presented to the City Commission a few weeks ago has been tossed out and was not presented to the public last evening. Five artist renderings were displayed on easels and voted on by citizens in attendance.
The second most popular concept was a Key West design. The hands-down winner was an Art Deco building that had been proposed a few years ago.
Each citizen received five green stickers (votes). The final tally was:
#1 -112
#4- 45

The planning “charette” (I had to look it up) was a good demonstration of how City Hall can operate on matters of such importance to the community.
The two finalist designs (#1 and #4), recommended by the Planning Board to the City Commission, are as depicted in the images.
